Choosing The Right Bra

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Did you see the recent TV show where those braziered crusaders Trinny and Susannah hit the UK high streets to find out if us girls were wearing the right sized bra and to make us more aware of how crucial it is that we do!

It turned out that over 70% of us are in ill-fitting bras. This is bad for our breasts, bad for our confidence, and does nothing to make us feel sexy or alluring. So what can we do about it?The first step is to go and be professionally measured at a good department store. If you don’t fancy that, then have a go at home using this online lingerie sizing guide - simply go grab your tape measure and click here.Secondly, were you aware that there is a right way to put on your bra?Follow these simple steps for the best look and feel:1. Slip on straps2. Fasten back3. Lean forward, pulling straps forward slightly4. Scoop breasts into cups5. The band around your back should rest parallel to your cups What if one is bigger than the other?
This is normal! Simply buy the bra with the cup that fits the larger and tighten the strap on the other side. You can also find some bras that have removable padding, so just remove it on your bigger side!8 out of 10 women wear the wrong cup size, so if your breasts are spilling out, get a larger bra, if it is too roomy, go smaller. This sounds basic but so many of us put up with this when we don’t need to!Experiment!
It is so easy to get stuck in a rut and keep wearing the same style. Try on different styles to find the ones that really suit your assets.Love Thyself! Real women come in all shapes and sizes, work on accepting your breasts. There is nothing more beautiful and attractive than a confident woman who is happy with her shape (despite the ‘perfect’ media images we are constantly bombarded with!)Look and Feel Beautiful A good bra make you feel terrific, your clothes will fit and hang much better on you, so it really is worth investing time and effort in finding the ones that make you look and feel great. You Try a push up bra if you have less on top, or a minimiser bra that pulls it all together if you have bigger boobs. Most importantly, always wear a great sports bra when exercising to keep your breasts in great shape.

I have a special occasion coming up and want to wear something that makes me feel look and good, but copes with my less-than-perfect bits… Where do I start?

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

The first place to start is by wearing the correct underwear to sculpt your not-so-perfect figure into a shapely and smooth silhouette so that clothes fit and hang beautifully.

You’ll look fabulous and feel supremely confident!

BIG ‘MUST KNOW’ SECRET: The vast majority of female celebrities wear Magic Knickers under their dresses and gowns to their red carpet do’s to give the appearance of a perfectly toned figure!

Invest in a pair of good-fitting Magic Knickers  – these wondrous garments will smooth and contour any lumps and bumps that need concealing, without the squeezed bits spilling out over the top or out of the sides – I know, it sounds strange, but it does work.

Note: Make sure you wear the right colour underwear – flesh colour goes with any colour outfit, while black underwear works only with black clothes.

Trinny and Susannah now have a range of Magic Knickers available from Littewoods in three styles called The Bum Lifter, the Tummy Flattener Thong and the Bum, Tum and Thigh Reducer (also available by mail order).

Also check out www.bareessentials.co.uk for a huge variety of body shapers including Patricia Eve’s Miracle Suit. M&S’s Magicwear dresses and separates are designed to cleverly support and enhance areas that may need a little extra help, and their range of magic underwear provide the perfect foundation for your outfit.

Ladies Go forth and mesmerise with your big pants and perfectly formed physiques for 2008!

What key items should I be looking to buy for spring/summer?

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Spring/summer is all about bringing in bright colours to liven us all up after the drab Winter.

I think your best bet is to invest in a lightweight coat that will take you from winter into spring, the Burberry Taffeta red trench coat would be ideal (these retail at around £ 635 online).

A good quality bright dress is also going to get plenty of wear. Monsoon have an orange printed silk dress for £55 which would look great over some leggings, jeans, or cut-off trousers.

How do I introduce colour into my predominantly black-based wardrobe?

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

Black can look chic, but it can also make you look washed out and wintry. Spring is the perfect time to start wearing strong colours – it can lift your look and your mood and draw a line between the seasons.

A good way to introduce colour is to add splashes of colour via your accessories eg.red bangles or a teal coloured string of beads. Or team black clothes with a coloured handbag, belt or shoes.

You could try adding a white vest-top to a black jacket or fine-knit cardi, thus keeping you within your comfort zone, then add colour by wrapping a scarf around your neck.

Move onto wearing clothes that are still dark, like navy, brown and grey, but add white to your outfit, to lift the dark colours, and make you look more vibrant.

Always wear colours that complement your skin tone – experiment until you find the ones that lift your skin, and make your hair and eyes look more alive.

How do I dress for the vintage look without looking silly?

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Become selective when opting for a current trend, think about whether it fits your personality and your lifestyle, otherwise you’ll never be completely at ease with your look and you will not be able to carry it off successfully.
The vintage trend is perfect for you as long as it is used in moderation. Mix something old with something contemporary. Never try to do vintage from head-to-toe unless you want to look like an extra in a costume drama.

Start by lightly accessorizing existing outfits with vintage- inspired pieces, eg. a diamontee brooche or a sequinned bag or necklace. For the day, opt for accessories that are vintage-inspired shapes, colours and textures but which are subtle not too bright or sparkly. For one-off pieces, try markets like Portobello, Camden, Spitalfields or Greenwich although the high street also has a good range of vintage-inpsired accessories, including Monsoon and Accessorise who currently stock beautiful replica antique jewellery.

I’m flat-chested – what should I wear?

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

The great thing about being flat-chested is that many clothes will hang better on you than on buxom ladies. And you can wear padded bras and silicone enhancers to add shape and definition.

You can choose to wear a variety of exciting necklines. For evenings, high-necked halternecks are a flattering option, as they show off a sexy back and shoulders! The stylish plunging neckline dresses that are so popular right now are also good for women with smaller chests (as long as you have a smooth and flawless décolleté), as attention is drawn to the low cut of the dress. Remember to use tit-tape, so that the dress stays put, and doesn’t slip or slide.

Other flattering shapes are long-fitted sleeves with a round neck
and tops with a frill or ruffle detail as these add volume to the chest area. Layering is another way of adding bulk to your chest, with fitted tops that draw attention to your waist.

Avoid low scoop necklines and deep v-necks that cling and accentuate a bony chest.

Personal shopping in London, Manchester, Leeds, and Brighton

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

Now we have a choice of shopping venues in England. Choose from London, Manchester, Leeds, or Brighton. Our personal stylists will take you shopping locally to you, saving you travel costs and time. When you want to buy new items, it’s easy to pop back to those shops you visited with your personal stylist.

Don’t forget, when you go shopping on your own after your personal shopping session with your personal stylist, you can phone or email your personal stylist who will be delighted to carry on giving you advice.

How can a Personal Stylist help to choose an outfit for a posh wedding (£500 budget)?

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

A Personal Stylist will take you shopping after doing her homework and thoroughly preparing for your session with her. This is done via a detailed questionnaire and a phone call. Obviously, your budget will help determine where she takes you. Throughout the shopping trip, she will give you advice on how to shop for your bodyshape, showing you how to achieve a fantastic silhouette, and how to choose colours that make you look amazing.

For posh wedding outfit ideas, take advantage of the wonderful clothes on the High Street. Head to either Coast or Whistles who both have some truly beautiful dresses in unique styles. Look for something in a brightly coloured satin or silk and layer it up with a velvet blazer in a coordinating shade.

For shoes, go to Russell and Bromley or LK Bennet and look for some killer heels in either a metallic leather or with a bit of sparkle to them.

For hats, try either Accessorize or John Lewis for a matching hat or feather hair accessory!
