Autumn 2006 Newsletter

The evenings are drawing in, it’s time to put away summer clothes, and start looking for a stylish coat and chic boots.

As we sashay into Autumn, here is a breakdown of the key Autumn/Winter trends:

Trend: Grey

Grey is one of the headline colours and tones for this season.

From slate to silver in jersey knits, silks, satin, and wool, it is sharp, stylish, chic and compliments other colours beautifully. Grey shades and textures should be mixed for a more directional look.

Trend: Layering

Layering is back this season in a big way. Long skirts, dresses, trousers and short skirts can all be layered to wonderful effect with t-shirts, vests, shirts, waistcoats, cardigans and jumpers. Remember to accessorise with belts and footless tights.

Trend: Cocoon (meaning “volume”)

The cocoon shape is similar to an egg shape, narrower at the top and wider at the bottom. Examples of pieces in this style include the updated puffball skirt shape, wide coats, and dresses fitted to the waist with billowing fabric around the hips. This shape may sound daunting to the petite or curvy who don’t want to look shapeless, but adding a belt at the waist will give a more structured look. The cocoon shape is best worn with one signature piece, and with all other pieces being in a minimal style.

Trend: Traditional

Tweeds and tartans, taking their inspiration from the british country style, make a dramatic return. Jackets are nipped in at the waist, and coats are over-sized and come in checks or hound’s-tooth fabric.

Trend: Androgyny

The boyish look with the feminine touch!

Styles vary from skinny fit suits to wide leg trousers, which is fantastic because every one can find a flattering option for their body shape.

Shirts worn with a plunging neckline help soften the look and add a sexy twist to an otherwise masculine silhouette.

Trend: Urban Warrior

This is a re-vamp of street-style classics: biker jackets, parkas and hooded tops are reworked in superdeluxe fabrics from patent leather to the smoothest cashmere. Layering the contrasting textures will add interest as well as keeping you warm and cosy!

Trend: Work Wear

Work wear is sophisticated with styles taken from ’40’s and ’50’s film glamour.

Pencil skirts, jackets with pinched in waists, towering heels and fitted sleeveless dresses all contribute to carrying off this subtle, but very feminine and sexy look.

Trend: Accessories

Accessories add the finishing and compulsory touch to any outfit.

  • Over-sized bags are still popular, as are structured bags and clutch bags.
  • Elbow-length gloves add ladylike allure.
  • Belts that clinch the waist are very popular and available in a variety of widths and colours.
  • Shoes are round-toed and high, and knee-length boots and ankle boots play a prominent role.

The key hats for this season are the beanie, the trilby, the baker boy, the captain’s hat and the beret.
It’s vital you choose the shape which is the most flattering for your face shape and hairstyle.
